Fact Check

KNOW THE FACTS

We Take Water Safety and Fire Safety Seriously. Very Seriously.

Highlands Water Company is serious about providing our community with clean, safe drinking water and makes sure water is available to put out fires. Our mission is to keep our community safe. We find it reprehensible that the City of Clearlake and those behind “Reform Highlands” could be so careless and irresponsible to post misinformation and lies about fire hydrants in Highlands service area to scare residents in the wake of the Boyles Fire on their websites, social media, and in a mailer.

FACT CHECK: Highlands Water Company and Fire Safety

  • 306 of 307 fire hydrants in Highlands service area are fully operational and meet fire standards.
  • Only ONE fire hydrant, in front of Starbucks, is currently inoperable after being hit by a truck and the hydrant is scheduled for repair.
  • According to the State of California, Highlands is in full compliance with all state water regulations.
  • According to the State of California, Highlands’ water tanks provide ample storage for both water consumption and fire protection.
  • Highlands installed over 25 fire hydrants in the last two years and is currently installing more for the city’s ball park project.

We hope there is still room in our community to disagree about water issues without the City and those behind “Reform Highlands” to use a community fire disaster as an opportunity to spread misinformation to scare people.
